Hull Notes Duo
Dawson and Taneea Hull formed the HullNotes Duo after recording a couple original albums together and sharing their music all over the country. They love to present a combination of classical and sacred music to their audiences, incorporating their training, musical passion, and their faith into everything they share. Their children often perform alongside them on piano, violin, and vocals. They have naturally grown their audience via online sharing to include people from all over the world!

This Christmas album featuring arrangements for piano and clarinet shines new light on what is possible for this combination. These are not merely clarinet solos with piano accompaniment, but true duets between the instruments, much in the same spirit as Beethoven’s groundbreaking sonatas for piano and violin or cello. Billed as a “A Classical Christmas,” the album offers up substantive, lasting compositions in the vein of fine art music. Technically, these are arrangements of familiar Christmas hymns, but Dawson’s skill as a composer is on display here as he picks up the cherished tunes and builds original artistic statements out of them. The recording quality is excellent, and the performances are top-notch as well. Taneea plays with agility and a sweet, focused tone, and Dawson has technique for miles, which is particularly evident in a few solo piano tracks thrown into the mix. The selections cycle through a variety of moods, from sprightly to lyrical to somber and dramatic. The album as a whole conveys a reflective and worshipful tone. Both artists proclaim the Good News of Christmas in their hearts and through their music. All in all, this is an excellent album, and I highly recommend it. It would make a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves the clarinet or piano, Christmas hymns, or just quality music.”
